Especially when it come to food and drink storage. There are some studies being done with very compelling evidence that shows a correlation between exposure to certain components in plastics called obesogens (i.e. BPA) in utero and childhood that cause us to be prone to obesity. Diet and exercise are still important in a healthy body weight, but this could help us understand why some people seem to gain weight by just thinking about that double chocolate chip cookie. One simple thing you can do is to store and serve food in glass or stainless. I switched from Tupperware, Gladware and the rest of the plastic storage containers to Pyrex a couple years ago. I’m so glad I did. Glass doesn’t leach ANYTHING and doesn’t stain. Even if a plastic product is BPA-free there could still be other components in the plastic that we haven’t studied yet. Many plastics have synthetic estrogen and could be contributing to the earlier puberty in girls occurring around the world. Glass containers are more expensive but they are worth the investment. Glass also doesn’t need to be replaced like old, scratched, stained and melted plastic ones do.
