A particularly nasty flame retardant called decabromodiphenyl ether (decaBDE), is being phased out by 2014. This flame retardant is found in electronics, cars, furniture and a number of other places. Many flame retardants are a group of chemical that are known to be toxic and are winding up in breast milk. We don’t as of yet understand all the far-reaching effects of these chemicals, but studies do show this and other chemicals like it have neurological and reproductive consequences. I’m posting a link to the story I came across.
