If you have copper or brass around your house that needs polishing don’t buy anymore metal polish. It is full of very nasty chemicals. You know that with one whiff. Instead save yourself some money and VOCs and buy some generic or, if you want to be insanely eco-friendly, organic ketchup and use it to remove tarnish. Another green polishing idea is half a lemon and some salt if you have very stubborn stains. To polish your silver use white toothpaste or for a lot of silver a baking soda/water paste. If the tarnish is pretty substantial let it sit on the silver for an hour or so. Then wash it off with a sponge and hot water. Another way I read about used a piece of aluminum foil in the bottom of a pan with salt and baking soda. The water is brought to a boil and the silver piece or pieces are put into the boiling bath. I have a silver platter in desperate need of polishing. I’ll try some of these methods and tell you what worked best for me. Here’s to sparkling metal without the icky fumes.
