Did you know that half of the household water consumption in the U.S. is from flushing our toilets? That’s a whole lot of water to get rid of our waste. Many of us live in homes built before 1994. Toilets older than 1994 use 3.5 gallons and up to 5 or more gallons per flush. Now there are dual-flush toilets that use .8 gallons for liquid and the full 1.6 for solids. There are some toilets that use as little as 1.3 gallons. In fact if every household switched one toilet to a high efficiency toilet the U.S. would save around 900 billion gallons of water a year. I know toilets are expensive, but it’s well worth the investment.
