We are all hearing a lot about sustainability, it’s on the news, articles and mentioned on product literature. My husband, yes mine, mentioned that he really didn’t know what it meant. We’ve been so saturated with the term, but seldom is it defined for us. Here is the official definition of “sustainability” as defined by the World Commission on Environment and Development in 1987: Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. This definition is similar to the “seventh generation” philosophy of the Native American Iroquois Confederacy, mandating that chiefs always consider the effects of their actions on their descendants seven generations into the future. I truly believe we are capable of living in a sustainable manner, but we have to be aware of what it is and how to do it. Hey, that’s why I’m doing this. Every little bit helps. Eventually we’ll get it right.
