Hooray for Ricoh! They are installing the first green billboard in New York’s Times Square. The sign will be run on wind and solar power. The Ricoh sign will keep 18 tons, yes tons, of carbon emissions out of the air every year. This is no little sign either, it is 47 feet high and 126 feet long. The turbines used to power it are a super efficient vertical style, they take less space and can be used at even the highest speeds. According to Ricoh, if all the billboards in Times Square ran on non-fossil-based-fuel you could light a city for a year (they did not specify which city). Ricoh is hoping other companies follow their example. I am too.
