I did a presentation last night about green decorating. I really enjoyed it. I did get a question that I didn’t have an answer for. The question was what kind of roof pitch can support a green roof system. I didn’t know so I did a little digging this morning. Most green roofs need to be on a fairly flat pitch between 1/2:12 to 3:12 or completely flat. I did find a site that has a system that will work on a 7:12 roof pitch. www.roofmeadow.com is the website that has 7:12 pitch system. They have five systems for different pitches and drainage needs. Green roofs are wonderful for many reasons; controlling water runoff and pollution, insulation from hot and cold weather, sound deadening, reducing the heat-island effect, bringing gardening and fresh vegetables to inner cities, lengthening the life of a roof, creating habitat and curing the eye sore of endless blacktop roofs. I hope if you have a roof that would work for a green roof you’ll consider this option. They are especially wonderful in inner cities.
